  2.                          The History of PowerData
  3.  
  4. This  file  contains  descriptions  of  the specific changes and fixes that
  5. occur  in  the different releases of PowerData.  The most recent version is
  6. first in the list.
  7.  
  8. The following list of abbreviations indicate the nature of the change:
  9.  
  10. MIN - Minor bug fixed
  11. MAJ - Major bug fixed
  12. NEW - New feature
  13. CH  - Change in operation
  14. OPT - Optimization or improvement of existing feature

  17. PowerData 38.210 - Unintentional V39 dependency in 38.200 removed
  18.  
  19. 23-Aug-1993    MAJ    Due to a small oversigt on my part, 38.200 was
  20.             actually 3.0-only. This manifested itself by oceans
  21.             of Enforcer hits and wrong gadget settings in the
  22.             main window, when this was opened. Fixed.
  23.         NEW    Swedish (svenska) translation graciously provided
  24.             by Jonny Lundin
  25.         MIN    Files were not always being crunched, even when
  26.             matching the filters. Fixed.
  27.         CH    'Save' gadget now closes the window (like 'Use').
  28.         OPT    Gadget hotkey routine optimized, redundant code
  29.             removed.
  30.         NEW    Added some built-in logic to automatically preclude
  31.             certain special files as well as most archive formats
  32.             from being crunched and/or decrunched. The filter is
  33.             currently set to:
  34.             #?.(lha|lzh|zip|zoo|arc|jpg|jpeg|arj|dms) and
  35.             (#?startup-sequence)|(#?user-startup)|(#?PowerData.info)
  36.             Please read the docs for a more detailed explanation
  37.             of this.
  38.         MIN    PowerData did not close the catalog it was using.
  39.             This made it very difficult to make new language
  40.             translations for PowerData, since you had to reboot
  41.             the machine to test a modified string. Fixed.
  42.         CH    Now uses keyfiles for registration.
  43.         OPT    Additional visual improvements:
  44.             · More attractive gadget hotkey underscoring
  45.             · No more double-refresh when zipping the window
  46.               (thanks to Magnus 'ReqChange' Holmgren (2:204/404.6)
  47.               for his help and advice :-)
  48.         OPT    Recompiled with SAS/C 6.3. This shaved an impressive
  49.             5032 bytes off the executable, and also made it much
  50.             faster.  Bye bye, Aztec... :-)
  51.         NEW    Dutch (nederlands) translation graciously provided

  55. PowerData 38.200 - Intermediate version before MAJOR new release
  56.  
  57. 24-Jul-1993    CH    ARexx interface is now compulsory. In stead of the
  58.             previous non-arexx executable you now get a special
  59.             68020+ version (popular request)
  60.         OPT    Localizing code cleaned up and optimized
  61.         OPT    Miscellaneous GUI improvements, including
  62.               · Backfilled window
  63.               · Scalable checkbox gadgets (V39)
  64.               · New-style menus (V39)
  65.               · Hotkey shortcuts for gadgets
  66.         MIN    GUI Bevelboxes were not being refreshed during window
  67.             zoom operations. Fixed.
  68.         NEW    Busypointer during crunch/decrunch is now switchable
  69.             via a new checkbox gadget in the main window
  70.         CH    Distribution now includes reqtools 38.1042
  71.         NEW    Filenames are now expanded to include paths before
  72.             being submitted to pattern matching. This allows you
  73.             to use filters like "DH0{80MB}:Somedir/#?/s/#?.pp".
  74.             You can still use the old "filenames-only" method
  75.             via a checkbox gadget in the main window. The old
  76.             method was retained because it is faster.
  77.         NEW    Decrunching can now be made to work for files that do
  78.             NOT match the patterns. This allows applications to
  79.             always read crunched files, but only have those files
  80.             crunched that do match the patterns
  81.         NEW    Now also patches OpenFromLock() to provide more
  82.             complete Powerpacker support. May cure many problems
  83.             with software failing to read Powerpacked files even
  84.             with PowerData running.
  85.         CH    ARexx port name changed to POWERDATA. Please fix
  86.             whatever ARexx scripts you have.
  87.         CH    Default temporary directory changed from POWERDATA_T:
  88.             to just T:
  89.         NEW    Distribution now includes full CatComp source
  90.         NEW    New icon for the PowerData executable. Hope you like
  91.             it :-)

  94. PowerData 38.115 - Basic ARexx interface, more bugs squashed
  95.  
  96. 09-Mar-1993    MAJ/MIN    Several bugs of different nature were found in the
  97.             previous version. Hopefully I got them all now.
  98.         NEW    ARexx interface, finally! There are currently seven
  99.             commands, doing everything from quitting PowerData,
  100.             to making it show its window.
  101.         NEW    The installation scripts now ask which version of
  102.             PowerData you wish to install (Rexx, or non-Rexx).
  103.         CH    New reqtools.library once again. This time v38.1022.
  104.         NEW    Italian localization [Mirco Zanca]
  105.         NEW    Windows are locked and made to display a wait pointer
  106.             (clock image) when PowerData is either crunching
  107.             or decrunching data.

  109. PowerData 38.110 - Global crunch/decrunch switches, new prefs file format
  110.  
  111. 08-Feb-1993    NEW    Global switches enabling and disabling transparent
  112.             crunching and/or decrunching.
  113.         NEW/CH    PowerData now reports if its prefs file is mangled
  114.             when it starts up (a small bug, really :-)
  115.         CH    Prefs file format changed, allowing for more
  116.             complex filename patterns and other, future
  117.             enhancements.
  118.         MIN    Changed default hotkeys from "ctrl alt ..." to
  119.             "control alt ...". Commodities.library v37 only
  120.             understands the latter format [Finn Kettner]
  121.         CH    PowerData now comes with v38.1020 of
  122.             reqtools.library. This version is a bit newer than
  123.             the library contained in the 38.105 distribution.
  124.         MAJ    Pattern handling was not entirely consistant. An
  125.             internal buffer was set to hold patterns of 30
  126.             characters, even though patterns span much more
  127.             than that. This problem caused spurious gurus to
  128.             appear when editing the pattern gadgets.
  129.         NEW    Installer script now fully localized in French
  130.             [Reza Elghazi]

  132. PowerData 38.105 - Mostly bug fixes
  133.  
  134. 17-Jan-1993    MAJ    PowerData *required* locale.library to be present
  135.             in order to work at all. Fixed.
  136.         MIN    The evaluation version of PowerData would hang if
  137.             it could not open any one of the required libraries.
